The Artist

Born, raised, and residing on Long Island, New York, I'm a little bit beach and a little bit city, and definitely used to living on the north shore. When I'm not swimming or glasswalking (or at work), I'm most likely holed up in my studio drawing, reading, or watching movies. In spite of the fact that I'd been told from a young age that I was artistically talented, I've only been somewhat serious about drawing and design since college, and practice as often as possible.

The Art

Random facts:

  • I like to arrange artwork in chronological order, to show the progression of skill, influence, and other factors in my studies.
  • I often spend a lot of time on pieces, both in terms of active creation, and in time elapsed until completion.
  • The materials/tools I commonly use include: Mechanical pencil, Sakura Micron inking pens, Tria and Copic markers, Prismacolor pencils, and Photoshop. I prefer to ink on smooth Bristol.
  • I am most inspired by comics and science-fiction/fantasy illustration, but also science (biology, comparative anatomy, technology, physics).

The Website

ScullyRaptor.com was first registered on July 10th, 2001, and the site itself has existed in various forms since 1997. My first webspace was a plot in the Dunes section of Area 51 on Geocities, before they merged with Yahoo, and evolved in design as I learned HTML on my own and through various tricks I picked up in school. My domains were registered when I found out about Gushi through a friend I met as a freshman in college, and I ran two websites ran side by side for a couple of years, but neither one was ever in a state of completion. I eventually lost the CyberNixie/CyberneticNixie domains while I was out of work during college, because I could only afford to renew one at the time, and felt that this one was more important in terms of recognition. CN had been my primary (and most complete) site and design, but it wasn't right for what I planned to do with the SR domain, so ScullyRaptor.com existed for some time (a few years!) with little more than a placeholder index as various things impeded my inspiration to build it as it should be. I'm very happy to be working on the site again, and pleased with the way it is coming out.

I pride myself on the fact that I construct and maintain just about everything on this website, and do most if not all building and editing in notepad. Still, I owe Gushi a lot of thanks for his help and patience with some of the more advanced server-related aspects.

The Future

I look forward to finishing the main areas of this website, because it inspires me so much to forge ahead on my projects that lead to more content! I'm undergoing a lot of introspection and I feel that it's helping me focus my energies better, and get all of my real goals in line with what I have to do to accomplish them.

Some of my current projects are:

  • Learning CSS
  • Finishing owed commissions
  • Completing this website
